Ongoing Monthly Costs

Your one-off share purchase includes all costs in the horse's development up to the 1st April 2025. After this date, ongoing costs per month, are $450 NZD (inc GST) per 10% share, while in New Zealand, and $700 NZD (inc AUS GST) per 10% share, while trained in Australia. A full disclosure, or investor financial statement is available on request.

Monthly finances and the horse's individual syndicate account are managed by an external Financial Controller, Martin Jackson. Formal financial accounts are provided quarterly upon request, by any Kingmakers owner for the horse they have an ownership share in.

This horse will be trained in Karaka by Shaun Clotworthy. He is destined for an Autumn 3 year old campaign in New Zealand, looking for qualification into one of the later Australian SA and QLD Derbies (May/June). He may also become a nice trade horse at the end of his 3 year old racing season -  pending performance.

He has been pre-trained with Sarah and Conor Fahy in Pukekohe up to early December 2024, where he had a quiet 800m jump-out. He has also been through the gates and will re-enter education from mid-March 2025.

He breaths very well, and is a very correct horse, developing slowly but as predicted. Early reports confirm he is a sensible horse, doing everything very workman-like. Easy to handle, and most importantly, has no reported physical issues from his track riders and trainer.

The Horse Itself

To sum this horse up, I would say he is a slowly maturing horse, that will continue to change and develop a lot in the coming 12 months. He is playful and is still learning, as he never had the early yearling sales prep or education that most yearlings receive. He will surprise us and we think he has inherited the ability of the dam, who was a central districts warhorse, winning eight races.

Conformation wise, he is perfect. He is a great breather and will grow to about 16.1 hands, sitting at 520kg racing weight. His joints and legs are perfectly correct with clean x-rays from when we bought him.

He has been described as a work in progress by Conor Fahy, who broke him in initially and who is now pre-training him. He has a nice action overall and is tractable through the line. He won’t be a big and heavy 3 year old but has a lovely profile and has developed into a mentally sound horse, following a slow start with a lack of stud farm handling as a yearling.

Why Did Kingmakers Buy This Horse?

This 2 year old gelding was bought from Karaka's Online Sale, a sale that used to be referred to as the Book 3 Festival Sale. The sale can turn up a few hardy types that make good racehorses as later maturing types.

This gelding will no doubt be a stayer (yet he may go well enough fresh to win at 1400m like the dam). He is the perfect syndicate horse for people wanting to enter the industry on a budget, with a tough, hardy horse that may race as a cups horse following a focus on some of the lessor Australian Derbies.

All the boxes are now ticked around education and he is well on his way. You won’t have to wait long as he is not a yearling but rising 3 year old. Trialling in June 2025, he will be racing as early as mid-summer, on a special program aimed towards a South Australian or Queensland Derby target.

We think this new and unique genetic cross of Redwood and Preferment (staying blood with staying blood) may produce a quality racehorse out of this young tough broodmare who won eight races in the central districts.
