Overview
This Ace High colt has arrived safely at Highline Thoroughbreds in Cambridge, following the Karaka Sales, and has settled in very well. He is very relaxed individual who is great doer and strong eater. He is only been in the paddock for 2 weeks and is already growing and physically improving from his sales preparation.
This colt is destined for a Spring 3-year old campaign in New Zealand, where he will target the traditional 1400m to 1600m races, including the early Guineas races in the Hawkes Bay and at Christchurch, along with the Sarten Memorial at Te Rapa.
This colt would suit an owner looking for a quality, classic 3-year old racehorse that may return some value over time as a possible trade horse to HK or AUS. He is quite typical of the mother who was a strong robust filly who raced early, winning at 2 years old, and of course the sire Ace High who was quite compact with a lot of muscle and natural strength.
We think Ace High will cross very well this mare, Secret Lily who had a similar biomechanic to the sire when he raced. They match up well and we think the breeder may have got it right.
The Horse Himself
We believe that in 12 months the colt will look nothing like he does today. He will develop into a cracking, physical, colt and visually take strongly after both the sire and the dam. We see similarities with Sunday Silence coming through the top pedigree line, his head will become more refined and he’ll be strong in the hind quarters like Ace High. He is a very relaxed horse who does not have a care about much. We imagine he’ll be an easy one to break in and will be a fast learner. A real dude let’s say.
Conformation wise, he is a big tick to the expert eye. He will grow to be about 16.1 hands and sit at around 520kg racing weight. He has a nice dark colour about him which is striking with lovely white star on his head, he’ll be a cracker come November.
Why Did Kingmakers Buy Him?
In one word, presence. If we used a second word, it’d be improvement. Horses often don’t make an impact when parading, but this guy has a real size, strength and purpose, but it is raw, at the moment he’s just a big baby, who will 100% develop into something refined and classic. We looked hard at the Ace High stock and felt he was one of the more unique ones at the complex this year.
In summary, this colt was bought from Karaka's Book 1 Yearling Sale, Lot 278. Ace High will drop something special from this crop, if not a few, quality 3 year olds. We love the Japanese influence from the sire, and can see that in this colt. Japanese blood has worked for us before with cracker 3 year old, Lupo Soltario. We are excited to see this guy develop and we are sure he’ll be in the frame in 18 months time.
