The Shamexpress colt was bought by Kingmakers Leighton Howl as a R2R pinhook for a group of friends. Paying $29,000 for a 550kg yearling sounded obsurd to most.

Passed in at the November's Ready to Run Sale, attracting only one bid from David Ellis, the owners took the now 600kg colt home to trial and race.

The large 2-year old was out of an old Saddlers Well's mare was nicknamed Shambles and trialled for two super wins under Nigel Tiley. Offers flooded in for the light footed giant.
