After a thorough process, including discussions with many industry players, we have identified our two new trainers for the future. Both are highly progressive and ambitious people, who we feel share our values. They’re collaborative and a pleasure to work with, putting owners first, with first class communications - just the way we like it. The two join our current trainers, Joe Pride and Danica Guy, who Kingmakers' founder Leighton Howl has had an association with for over ten years now.
Andrew Forsman is our newest trainer. He came through the school of Murray Baker, who did a superb job last season with over 50 winners. Andrew too is driven to win. He’s based in Cambridge, and as you might know, also covers Melbourne with a small satellite stable at Flemington racecourse. Feedback from within the racing industry made Andrew’s choice an easy one.
Second up, we welcome Conor & Sarah Fahy, a young couple we’re backing big time. They are well into the game now, with an impressive 9 winners in their second season. They’ve both learnt under Ciaron Maher, so have worked with one of the best horsemen in Victoria. They also did all the pre-training and breaking-in work on many of our current young horses, including Fernweh, who has already put his hand up at Warwick Farm with a debut second. There’s a big future for these two.
Our association with Joe Pride goes back over 10 years. As a top-five Sydney trainer, he needs no long-winded introduction. Many of our current owners have been in horses with him before, like Mach Schnell, Arraignment, and now Fernweh, so will understand just how strategic and professional this guy is. You’d probably agree that if he wasn’t training horses he be coaching an NRL League team - and they’d go well! We’re fortunate he can take a select few our horses each season as demand for his services has sky rocketed in recent years.
Our association with Danica Guy also goes back many years. As a boutique group one Matamata trainer, she has trained many black type winners and also needs no introduction. Many of our current owners have been in horses with her before, including more recently Lupo Soltario who won the G3 Bonecrusher Stakes and Tomorrowland who won two listed sprint races in slashing times. Although, she will also take a few select horses each season, as her operation is smaller and can only handle a certain number in her stable.
